Graduate Awards and Placement Committee.
Back to Graduate Studies
GAP is a unique resource for graduate students in the Department of Romance Languages and Literatures. GAP provides graduate students with individual and group advising on many aspects of their academic studies, from taking exams to finding fellowships, to the academic job search and the interview process. Below you will find a few of the services this unique committee provides to RLL students:
- CV and Cover Letter Preparation GAP committee members work
closely with students preparing to enter the job market. We help
to guide students in selecting appropriate openings, review their
CVs, provide readings and comments on cover letters, dissertation
abstracts, and example syllabi.
- Mock Interviews In late November or early December, the committee
holds a mock interview session at which a panel of experienced
professors take the candidates through actual interview situations.
Fellow students form an interested audience. Advanced PhD students
who will soon be interviewed at the MLA are thus afforded a preview
of the situation they will soon be experiencing. After the mock
interviews, the panel offers each student a critique of his or
her performance, noting strong points and areas that may need
work. Many graduate students attend the mock interview sessions
year after year, as there is always something to learn.
