UF en BARCELONA
SPRING SEMESTER 2006



Join the new UF program in Barcelona, a dynamic and
creative city on the Mediterranean with a mild climate, a vibrant cultural scene, and several outstanding universities. Take a full course load, live with a family, enjoy
several guided weekend excursions, have a resident UF faculty member plus the wonderful staff and handy offices of ISA, our overseas services provider.

What are the requirements?
3.0 GPA; Junior standing; SPN 3300 or SPN 3350. If you do not meet the GPA or class standing requirement, talk to Dr. Nichols.

What will it cost?
$9,560. Bright Futures pays tuition for semester-long programs abroad, so if you have Bright Futures, subtract $1182-$1477 from this cost. Prepaid tuition also applies to the tuition cost.

What is included?
Room and full board with a host family; overnight and day excursions, including one to Sevilla (airfare paid); entrance fees and guided tours; health insurance; UF and/or Pompeu Fabra tuition; internet access and tutoring in ISA offices; a resident UF faculty member.

What other expenses should I count on?
Round-trip airfare to Madrid, books, entertainment, spending money. If you want to travel during Semana Santa, or after the program ends, factor in those costs, too. Tuition for SPN 4930 is $309.

How will it work?
Students can take up to 15 credits: one SPN 4930 course for UF credit (Barcelona: literature and culture, 3 cr. Prereq: two SPW 3000 courses), an intensive Spanish language course, and 2 or 3 other courses (for transfer credit) at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra, one of the newest public universities in Spain. Recent courses offered: Introduction to Spanish Cinema; History of Barcelona; Social Structure in Present-Day Spain.

Where will I live?
This is a home stay program, with families chosen by ISA, an organization with years of experience helping American students have an unforgettable educational experience in Spain.

Deadline for applications to be in?
October 14. Fees due upon application.

What about scholarships and financial aid?
There are scholarships available through the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and UFIC. Check the UFIC website for details: www.ufic.ufl.edu Financial aid is available through Student Financial Affairs. Check with Katrice Crawford in Criser Hall at (352) 392-1275 x 3321. Her Fall 2005 counter hours are M/W/F 2:30 - 4:30pm, and T/R 12:30 - 2:30pm.
